From Classroom to Career

Samantha Bothager's experience at DACC has been a shining example of how career tech education can pave the way for remarkable opportunities in the workforce. Bothager, a senior in the Power Sports & Diesel Technology program, found her calling in welding, a skill she honed through DACC's hands-on curriculum and further developed during her work-based learning experience at Yellow Weld, a Columbus-based welding company. This engagement not only provided Bothager with invaluable real-world experience but also led to a job offer, underscoring the effectiveness of DACC's approach to education by linking classroom learning with practical application in the industry.

David Bullivant Quote

David Bullivant, the Owner of Yellow Weld, lauds the initiative of integrating high school students into the workforce, noting the fresh perspective and strong work ethic they bring to the table. Bothager's story is a testament to the mutual benefits of such partnerships, where students like Sam gain critical skills and confidence, while companies benefit from mentoring eager young talents who contribute positively to their company culture.

“Hiring high school students has been an excellent experience for Yellow Weld. We believe that young people are underestimated in the workforce and have tremendous value to offer if they are treated well, mentored, and given responsibility and accountability for their own success. We find they are hungry to learn and grow, they work hard, and they bring excellent presence to our company culture.”

As Bothager contemplates a possible future in the Welding Engineering program at The Ohio State University, her journey from DACC to Yellow Weld exemplifies DACC’s mission to empower and prepare students for successful careers, serving as an inspiring model of how career tech education can bridge the gap between academic pursuits and professional success.
